Mission Statement

The Growing Edge Center for Sustainable Peace and Healing is a 501(C) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable healthcare and responsible lifestyle practices which promote the realization of greater peace and wellness.

Its functions include:

a holistic* bio-regional resource center offering educational opportunities and experiential programs to enhance awareness and explore practical applications regarding sustainability and healing, with an emphasis on the preservation and integration of traditional healing systems.

a sanctuary and retreat for those seeking rest, rejuvenation and a supportive environment for contemplation and spiritual practice.

a collective initiating and supporting special programs and projects serving the greater community in the areas of sustainable peace and healing.

The Growing Edge strives to demonstrate the importance of healthy, sustainable relationships between the natural environment and the lifestyle and livelihood of those in it. It provides, and seeks to expand, a wide variety of health related services that reflect balance and harmony with the natural world. Philosophical and practical approaches to holistic wellness and ecological sustainability, including the relationship between environmental integrity and its multidimensional impact on the quality of human life and health, are being explored. We are committed to conserving the integrity and vitality of our bio-region, eco-communities, wildlands and the natural world in general as we recognize these to be the intrinsic source of our collective well-being and quality of life.

Our Directors

Kay Brownfield has been a holistic practitioner and educator since 1980. Well-grounded in theoretical and conceptual foundations of transpersonal psychology and psycho-spiritual development, she is skilled in both individual and group process. Teaching psychosynthesis in the U.S. and Canada since 1986, Kay maintains a private practice, integrating Western psychological thought, traditional Native and Ayurvedic wisdom, somatic energy work and breathwork. In 1993, Kay founded The Growing Edge Retreat and Learning Center where she lives and works. She offers support, education and mentoring for individuals seeking a greater sense of wellness and those recovering from physical, emotional and/or spiritual trauma.

David Howard, Director of Ayurvedic and Botanical Studies at The Growing Edge, has been studying traditional healing techniques, herbal medicine, nutritional science and massage for more than 20 years. He assists individuals in developing healing lifestyle programs to help re-establish balance and integrity within our environment, relations and everyday activities. This includes Ayurvedic constitutional programs, body/mind nutrition, and herbal support.

David is a longtime student of Dr. Vasant Lad, renowned Ayurvedic physician, author, and Founder/Director of The Ayurvedic Institute in Albuquerque, N.M.

Come to the edge,
We can't. We are afraid.

Come to the edge.
We can't. We will fall.

Come to the edge.

And they came.

And he pushed them.

And they flew.

Guillaume Apollinaire

We look forward to supporting your growing edge in the near future!
